Christmas in Negros Oriental
It’s the most cheerful time of the year again in the region of Negros Oriental. Celebrating the Yuletide Season and Christmas Holidays, the Tourism Office of Negros Oriental has prepared a bunch of great events for all the people to enjoy on this festive season.
Maayong Pasko!
The term ‘Maayong Pasko’ is translated from the Visayan dialect which means Good/Merry Christmas. The phrase is used numerously in terms of local Christmas caroling around Dumaguete and Negros Oriental. But aside from the Christmas carols, there are other events celebrated in the festive season of Christmas like tree lighting, firework displays, and public shows.
Christmas in Negros Oriental
One of the most important features of the Christmas Season is, of course, the Christmas tree and the Christmas Belen (nativity scene of Jesus’ birth). In part of the season’s spirit, the different municipalities, cities, and towns of Negros Oriental showcase their own Christmas Tree Lighting in many different shapes, colors, and themes. Last year, a variety of ideas in terms of ‘Christmas Tree’ Lighting was showcased. For example, the city of Bais had their ceremonies of lighting up a giant pineapple to stand out for Christmas, while other municipalities like Valencia and Bacong stayed on the usual tree concept.
Dumaguete City had their Christmas Tree Lighting last December 07, 2017 at the Quezon Park with the presence of City Mayor Felipe Antonio “Ipe” Remollo and other important officials.
Pasko Sa Kapitolyo
The celebration of the Pasko sa Kapitolyo has been a new tradition made by the tourism office of Negros Oriental. The Pasko sa Kapitolyo will open on December 17, 2017, with a Christmas Parade and Float Parade Competition at 2:00 pm around the Dumaguete Streets. This will then be followed by the official Opening Salvo, lighting up ceremony and firework displays in front of the Capitol Building in Freedom Park. The day will be concluded with a Sayawit Competition which will be held at the Capitol Forecourt Stage at 7 pm to 10 pm.
Variety shows and healthy dancing clubs are also encouraged during the Holiday Season. This includes the search for Sidlakan Star 2017 Season 7 (scheduled for December 26-30, 2017), where talents from all over Negros Oriental will be competing.
Here’s a video of Dr. Absin’s Christmas House to enlighten your Christmas Spirit:
Christmas only arrives for real in Dumaguete City when the Christmas House of Doc Rico Absin opens to the public. We had the privilege to visit a few hours before the official opening to take some pictures of this years decorations.
