Soldier shot in urban war of Marawi

The on-going war against the government securities and Muslim settlers in Marawi south of the Philippines has caused the lives of many innocent people and brave soldiers. The body of the Army officer 2Lt. MacGlen Abuyador from Bais City, Negros Oriental made the last trip home last Thursday on a Philippine Air Force plane.

The fallen soldier

2Lt. MacGlen Abuyador is a 28 years old who joined the army for 3 years and has graduated as cum laude with a degree in business administration in Negros Oriental State University in his hometown, Bais City. The Army officer was killed during a clash with the Muslim militant let by the Maute group on Wednesday morning. He was shot by a sniper twice in the right side of his body and was left for hours until it was recovered back to their quarters.

The family of 2Lt. MacGlen Abuyador received full military honors from the Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion and the 2nd Negros Island Geographical Battalion at the Dumagut-Sibulan airport. Through social media, the family was informed that MacGlen was wounded on Wednesday but was later on confirmed of his death.  MacGlen’s last conversation with his brother, Police Officer 1 Jaykel Abuyador, was to take care of his family and never to leave them alone.

The family mourned over the loss of the fallen soldier. Evangeline and Alex, MacGlen’s parents, pleaded the Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte to end the crisis in Marawi or more soldiers would lose their lives. And as for the Maute group, Evangeline said that they were ruthless in killing their son. He was indeed too young to die.

The burial of 2Lt. McGlen Abuyador will be in about three days. May his soul find the peace he could find here on Earth. As for the soldiers and civilians back in Marawi, rescue teams and goods are being sent to sustain them from the urban war against the Maute group.
