Sandurot Festival 2017 moved to September

Since the month of February, the head of Tourism Office of Dumaguete have mentioned in moving the Sandurot Festival celebration of street dancing to September instead in November with the City Fiesta.

Sandurot Festival

Sandurot is a Visayan derivation of the phrase “pakig-sandurot” or to join in. Dumaguete City is known as the “City of Gentle People”. The celebration of Sandurot Festival embarks a lot of historical practices and culture that makes Dumaguete what it is today.

“It is a festival that celebrates the diverse and hospitable community that is Dumaguete today,” said Dems Rey Demecillo of the Dumaguete City Information Office.

Officials from the Tourism Office explained that by moving the celebration of Sandurot from November to September, performers for the said street dancing and showdown will be prepared for the grand competition during the Buglasan Festival. The celebration of the City Fiesta or Charter Day will remain in November. After the grand festivity of Buglasan Festival, Sandurot will expected to compete in other festivals like MassKara Festival of Bacolod City and Ati-Atihan of Iloilo.

The change of Sandurot Festival celebration-date will not be requiring any ordinance nor legislative action. It will be up to the city’s leadership own will and decisions. The Sandurot festival will be very flexible to celebrate. Schedules are not yet being released to the public by the Dumaguete Tourism Office for the time being. Never the less, this kind of updates must be followed up.
