Philippine Handball to Compete in Kuala Lumpur
After receiving the bronze award at the first ever ASEAN Beach Handball held in Dumaguete City last November 3 to 6, 2017, two Philippine handball team will venture in competing for the International Handball Federation Trophy tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
International Handball Federation Trophy
The sporting event of the International Handball Federation Trophy will be held in Kuala Lumpur from April 16 to 22, 2018. The Kuala Lumpur tournament is considered as the region’s age-group championship that will follow to the inclusion of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games calendar. Teams who can garner certain medals can compete in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
Philippine Handball Teams
Philippines will be sending two teams for the said sporting event. A Junior team composing of players born in 1998 and later on and a Youth squad composing of players born on 2000 and later on.
The Philippine team of the handball games won the bronze medal during the first-ever international competition held in Dumaguete City. The Southeast Asian Beach Handball was participated by to other countries (Thailand and Vietnam) in both categories of female and male handball games.
It is in these divisions (Junior and Youth) that we have the strongest chance [of winning medals],” Philippine Handball Federation secretary general Jay Adalem said.
The objective is to contribute to the goal of winning the overall championship for the Philippines [in the SEA Games] and to raise the profile of handball in the Philippines,” Philippine Handball coach Jana Franquelli added.
