The 2017 Palarong Pangbansa held from April 23-29 is believed to be one of the biggest and most successful event ever held in Antique. From 18 different regions of the Philippines and twenty regular sports, more than 12, 000 students in elementary and high school came to San Jose de Buenavista City for sporting event.

During the sporting event, even the Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte came to do one of the opening ceremony of this grand event. The Palarong Pangbansa 2017 marks a historical deed for Phil. President Rodrigo Duterte is the first ever president to join a sporting event on the first year of office. The sporting event was even more graced when athlete Elma Muros came to receive her Lifetime Palarong Pangbansa Achievement Award. Elma Muros is one of the most recognized Filipina long jumper and heptathlete.
Awards and Medalists
Athletes from Negros Oriental came home after the event with their heads held high as they garnered 36 bronze medals, 27 silver medals, 26 gold medals and 4th place in over-all performance. The athletes along with their respective coaches thanked the City Mayor Felipe Remollo and the City Administrator Ricardo Gonzalez Jr. for the unfathomable support of the city during the said sporting event.
The Dumaguete Division School Superintendent Dr. Evangel M. Luminarias said that their division made a contribution of 6 gold, 9 silver and 5 bronze medals to push the athletes from Negros Island Region in the 2017 Palarong Pangbansa.
The Palarong Pangbansa is considered as the small steps taken by the youth to reach their sporting dreams in the future. Molding and guiding them is what the successful event of Palarong Pangbansa is created for.
