Batang Pinoy 2017 will be hosted by Dumaguete City
The Batang Pinoy (Filipino Youth) is a national sports competition that will be held in Dumaguete City from September 23-29, 2017. Over 3,500 athletes are to be expected to arrive.
Dumaguete Hosts Batang Pinoy
According to the Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William Ramirez, Dumaguete City met the quality sports venue (within 5 km radius) needed for a national sports competition therefore will be chosen as the host of the Visayan Leg of the Batang Pinoy event. Classes will be suspended in schools which will be used as billeting and sports venues, said City Schools Division Superintendent Evangel Luminarias.
Dumaguete City is also fit to host the sports event with its different suitable accommodation and comfort. City heads are also making this an opportunity for better tourist experience and tourism promotion.
Batang Pinoy
The Batang Pinoy is a sports competition that help mold the Filipino youth aged 15 years old and below to their field of sport. The game event is relevant to Palarong Pambansa, however, Batang Pinoy includes out-of-school athletes to join in the competition giving chances to unscholarly yet sporty youth.
It also aims to produce potential athletes who can bring honor to the name of the country both nationally and internationally. The event is held annually since 1999-2002. It was shortly stopped from 2003-2010 and was held again from 2011 and yearly since then.
Different sports to be played includes: archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, dancesport, karatedo, pencak silat, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis and volleyball.
