Vice Mayor Woodrow Maquiling, head of the Sangguniang Panglunsod, has recently presented another  “Resolution of Commendation and Thanks” to the Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce & Industry for its “extraordinary dynamism and numerous contributions” to the enormous growth of the Business Process Outsourcing industry in Dumaguete City.

The City Council made special thanks to the efforts the Chamber which led to the creation of thousands of job opportunities for the Dumagueteño, and of course on making Dumaguete as one of the Top 100 (ranked 93rd) Best Outsourcing Destinations in the World, according to Tholons International, a top global consulting firm.

During the City Council’s regular session last Wednesday The Resolution of Commendation and Thanks was received by the NOCCI President Edward C. Du, together with the top executives of all the BPO companies doing business in Dumaguete.

The NOCCI President Du also gave proper recognitions to the beloved City Mayor of Dumaguete, Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria for his spearheading efforts in the information technology, and referred his as the “Father of BDOs in Dumaguete”.

When Sagarbarria was still City Councilor, Du recalled that he authored a unique and innovative First-Mover Ordinance in 2005, which highly encouraged BPOs to locate their transnational businesses in the University Town. Sagarbarria was also president of NOCCI that time.

The NOCCI President Du also showed his gratitude to Engr. Abraham Bernardez for moving PLDT Ventus (now SPi Global) from the town of Bacong to Dumaguete. This was right after the enactment of the Dumaguete Investment and Incentive Code in 2009, which is another landmark City Ordinance that was constructed by the NOCCI.
