Tourism in Dumaguete

The Dumaguete City Tourism Office ranked third in tourist arrivals city category for 2014 in Central Visayas, the Department of Tourism Region VII statistics report showed.

The ranking was announced by DOT regional director, Rowena Lu Montecillo, as part of her report on the “2014 Central Visayas Tourism Performance” during the 2 nd Central Visayas Regional Assembly of Tourism Officers at the Cebu International Parklane Hotel in Cebu City, recently, a government press release said.

Cebu City and Lapu-Lapu City, also in Cebu, ranked first and second, respectively, with Tagbilaran City in Bohol in fourth place, followed by Mandaue City, Bogo City and Danao City, all in Cebu; and Bayawan City, Canlaon City and Bais City, Negros Oriental.

Tourism in Dumaguete growth

Statistics showed that 53,007 foreigners and 381,200 domestic tourists arrived in Dumaguete last year, or a growth of 10.25 percent.

City Tourism officer, Woodrow Maquiling Jr., said Dumaguete is the tourism epicenter of Negros Oriental, “and it has been our endeavor to sustain if not elevate further our campaign for the city, rooting on the numerous adventure opportunities, breathtaking attractions and historical landmarks we have in the City and in neighboring towns and cities.”

During the regional assembly attended by around 100 tourism officers from Cebu, Bohol and Negros Oriental, discussions on relaying and addressing issues encountered by tourism offers were made on child protection law, greening the tourism value chain, DOT accreditation, and GAD, among others, the press release added.
