NIR to Join AgriLink 2016
AgriLink, the biggest agricultural annual trade exhibit in the country, will be on October 6 – 8 at the World Trade Center, Pasay City and the region to be given more attention this year is Negros Island Region (NIR) with the theme “Negros Island: A Model of Agribusiness Resiliency”. This was announced by DA-NIR Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division Officer Bernard Limbaga who further explained that the organizers chose NIR because of the combination of its potential, resources, climate and attitude of the people that is favorable for agribusiness and tourism growth. He added that this is a great opportunity for the NIR farmers and livestock farmers to show off their products worldwide.
A 24-square meter booth will be assigned to the NIR, where there will be equal sharing of space between the two provinces making up the region. A picture of a sugarcane plantation will be the backdrop for Negros Occidental while a picture of Mt. Kanlaon and Apo Island for Negros Oriental.
NIR in AgriLink -Trade Fair
The 23rd International Agribusiness Exhibition and Seminars opened Thursday at the World Trade Center, Roxas Boulevard. Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon was there together with Senate Committee on Agriculture Senator Cynthia Villar and officials from the Department of Agriculture and the Sugar Regulatory Administration.
The governor was very happy of the large turn-out of visitors at the AgriLink 2016, some of which were livestock raisers and agriculture industry stakeholders, because it is another opportunity for the Negros Island to promote itself as the Organic Food Bowl of Asia. Negros Oriental’s budbod and tablea chocolate drink were crowd favorites that supply ran out by mid-day.
Aside from the organic products, on display were also silkworm products and agriculture equipment and technologies produced locally.
