Miss Universe 2018 is Catriona Gray – PHILIPPINES!
Miss Catriona Gray makes history by being the fourth Filipina to win the title as Miss Universe. Aside from her “lava walk” and her beauty, her wit, and confidence helped her win the crown and title as Miss Universe 2018. From her accessories, photoshoots, walk and especially her evening gown, Catriona Gray had her moment of being perfect as she embodied the millions of Filipinos in the Philippines.
Little More About Catriona Gray
Catriona Elisa Magnayon Gray is a 24 years old half Filipino half Australian model, tv host, stage actress, singer, and pageant titleholder. She won the title as Miss Binibining Pilipinas 2018 last March 18, 2018, against 38 other candidates. She represented the Philippines for the Miss Universe 2018 pageant where she won the crown.
Miss Universe 2018 Pageant
Miss Universe 2018 was held yesterday December 17, 2018, at Impact, Muang Thong Thani, Pak Kret, Thailand. This year marks the 67th Miss Universe Pageant with 94 countries who participated. The highlights of Miss Philippines during the prelamination of Miss Universe 2018 was her swimsuit walk called “lava walk”. The internet has fired with reactions of her sleek slow-motion walk. Even supermodel Tyra Banks retweeted the post of Catriona Gray’s walk with her caption “I mean…Pinoy Power to the Max!!!”. This clearly says how impressed she was of Miss Philippines’ walk during the swimsuit round.
Miss Universe 2018 Q&A portion
After all the walking and the catwalks, the candidates for Miss Universe had to make the next portion of the competition…the Question and Answer portion. For the first set of questions and answer, Miss Philippines was asked by the host “Canada recently joined Uruguay as the second nation in the world to make marijuana legal. What is your opinion on the regularization of marijuana?”
I’m for it being used for medical use, but not so for recreational use. Because I think if people will argue then what about alcohol and cigarettes? Everything is good but in moderation” she answered.
For the Top 3 (and final) question, Host Steve Harvey asked her “What is the most important lesson you’ve learned and how will you apply it to your time as Miss Universe?”
I work a lot in the slums of Tondo, Manila and the life there is poor and very sad. And I’ve always taught to myself to look for the beauty of it and look in the beauty of the faces of the children and to be grateful. And I will bring this aspect as a Miss Universe to see situations with a silver lining and to assess where I could give something, where I could provide something as a spokesperson. And this I think if I can teach people to be grateful, we can have an amazing world where negativity could not grow and foster and children will have smile on their faces.” She answered.
With that answer and confidence Miss Catriona Gray surely deserved the crown. Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green, 24, was first runner-up, followed by Miss Venezuela Sthefany Gutiérrez, 19. Miss Spain Angela Ponce, 27, made history as the first transgender contestant 67 years of Miss Universe pageant.
