Negros Oriental – Women’s Crisis Center
The Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Women’s Crisis Center near the DILG Provincial Office was lead by Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.
The Center, which is a long-awaited dream of VAWC advocates, will finally come into fruition as the Governor declared that the construction of the building shall start immediately. Present during the activity were Board Member Dok Liland Estacion, members of the Provincial Commission on Women (PCW), civic organizations, officials and employees of the Provincial Government and other stakeholders.
The construction of the project will run at a cost of P10 Million, which will be mainly founded by the province. Violence against women and children is a increasing problem worldwide. The lack of facilities results in a failure of successful prosecution.
Degamo: “This two-story center accommodates abused women and children or trafficking survivors who will also be given counseling and taught livelihood and life skills for them to become self-reliant.”
The construction of the Woman’s Crisis Center sets a sign to show how serious the province of Negros Oriental is about to fight domestic violence and any form of abuse against women and children.
