Steam Explosion of Kanlaon Volcano
An 8 minutes steam explosion occurred in the late hours of November 23, (9:55 pm) at the Kanlaon Volcano ind the municipality of Canlaon City, Negros Oriental. Continuous emission of steam with minor traces of ash from the volcano crater were recorded The steam explosion of Mt. Kanlaon started with a rumbling which could be heard in the surrounding areas by 9:30pm. The white plume caused by the steam explosion reached a height of 1,5 kilometers above the mountaiu’s summit before drifting southeast.

Alert Level 1 at Kanlaon Volcano
ALERT LEVEL 1 – status now currently prevails over Kanlaon Volcano, which means that it is at an abnormal condition and has entered a period of unrest. The local government units and the public are strictly reminded that entry into the 4 kilometer Radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is strictly prohibited due to the further possibilities of sudden and hazardous steam-driven or phreatic eruptions. Civil Aviation Authorities must also advise pilots to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit as ejects from any sudden phreatic eruption can be hazardous to aircraft. DOST-PHILVOLCS is closely monitoring Kanlaon volcano’s activity and any new development will be relayed to all concerned.
