Marine Conservation Photo Exhibit
A photo exhibit will be showcased during the celebration of the World Oceans Day this year. The exhibit will be composed of natural marine beauty found all over the Philippines more specifically the Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) such us the Marine Sanctuary in Tingloy, Batangas, Apo Island in Negros Oriental, Cagayancillo and Tubbataha in Palawan, and the Tañon Strait in the Visayas.
Life beneath the surface
Apo Island is known as the ‘gateway’ to the marine life and beauty here in Negros Oriental. Swarming with sea turtles (pawikan in local terms), Apo Island is known to be one of the tourist and diving destination not only in Negros Oriental but in the Philippines as well. During the World Oceans Day, multi-awarded photographers Danny Ocampo and Anna Varona have made Apo Island as their ‘journey towards marine conservation’.
World of Marine Conservation Photo Exhibits
The marine conservation photo exhibit will be showcased until July 31 as a supported public display by the Department of Tourism. Sponsors for all the printed portraits and selected postcard sized pictures is no other that Canon Philippines. After the exhibit, the display especially the postcards will be later on will be sold throughout tourist destinations to help the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWFF) Philippines.
The talented photographer stated that tourists should be responsible enough to maintain the and conserve the beauty of the MPAs.
“Apo Island continues to inspire not only me but hundreds of individuals, organizations and policy makers here and abroad who have been there. Sadly, its popularity is beginning to be its bane and measures have to be taken to ensure that tourism and conservation complement each other,” said Ocampo.
