Church & Government partner in Drug Rehab Program
The Diocese of San Carlos, which covers municipalities and cities from Manapla in Negros Occidental to Guihulngan City in Negros Oriental, announced Saturday that they are planning to implement a drug rehab program in partnership with local government units. Fr. Nadio Nacario, representing Bishop Gerardo Alminaza during the launching of MASA MASID (Mamayan Ayaw sa Anomalya, Mamayan Ayaw sa Iligal na Droga), said that they have identified a small community which will serve as the pilot area for the Wellness Camp.
Fr. Nacario also added that they are getting alarmed with the violence associated with the government’s war against illegal drugs. They are joining the Dioceses of Bacolod, Kabankalan and Dumaguete in the issuance of a unified statement against extrajudicial killings expected to be released this week.
MASA MASID, a program of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), had its launching for the Negros Island Region last Saturday, October 1, in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental with DILG Secretary Ismael “Mike” Sueno.
