23,000 Students in Dumaguete City
This school year 2018-2019 has lured in hungry students to learn in Dumaguete City. With a dramatical increase of 23,000 Students in Dumaguete City, the lack of classrooms and learning facilities may be a problem.

Dumaguete City has a record of 120,883 people in the 2010 census. After 8 years, there would not be a surprise that the number of people tripled. With the growing number of people in the community, lack of proper learning facilities has been one of the major problems for the Department of Education (DepEd) not only in the Dumaguete City Division but all over the Philippines as well.
Last June 15, 2018 a ceremony was held to celebrate the official opening of the school year 2018-2019 and the 23,000 students that have been registered in the different public elementary and high schools in Dumaguete City. The event was also mainly to pay tribute for the 968-strong Department of Education faculty and staff for their dedication in education.
The top officials that attended the said event were Schools Assistant Division Supt. Neri Ojastro, SDS Dr. Evangel Luminarias, Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, Dr. Nelson Caday and Dr. Juditha Mapue.
The 23,000 students are composed of some 14, 942 students enrolled in the elementary level; 6, 368 in Junior High School and 1, 770 in Senior High School. Dumaguete City has a total of nearly 900 teachers who are operating in the annual budget of Php 402 Million given by the National Government. The DepEd of Dumaguete City lauded the city government for investing P 2.1 million in the acquisition of ICT hardware; P 4 million for the various expenses in the City Meet, CVRAA, and Palarong Pambansa.
