SGLG Award for Dumaguete
Dumaguete City is one of the recipients of the 2015 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award because it passed the scrutiny of national evaluators from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) during their assessment conducted last month. This was clarified by Farah Diba Gentuya, Local Government Operations Officer in Dumaguete City, when she was invited by the Sangguniang Panlungsod to clarify on some points raised by Councilor Lilani Ramon on how the city got the award, the second for Dumaguete City.
The city under the previous administration of then mayor Manuel Sagarbarria failed to comply with three minimum parameters (there are six parameters overall) – financial administration, social protection and disaster preparedness – and the present administration, headed by Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, continued improving their processes and performances in preparation for the final evaluation last October. Overall, Dumaguete was able to comply with the requirements for all six parameters, including business friendliness and competitiveness, peace and order and environmental management.
Gentuya further clarified that the SGLG is given to several local government units (LGUs), not just one, that were compliant to the minimum parameters and winning LGUs also receive additional funding for their projects. Other LGUs in Negros Oriental who are also recipients of the award are Bayawan City and Municipality of Zamboanguita.
NegOr SGLG Awardees Get Grants
As part of their reward for being awarded the 2016 Seal of Good Local Governance, Dumaguete City, Bayawan City and the Municipality of Zamboanguita will receive a total of P13 million as grants from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), with the following distribution: P5 million for the cities and P3million for the municipality. City DILG Officer Farah Diba Gentuya said that these amounts should be used specifically for development projects aligned to their respective Annual Investment Plans which would have a significant impact on the beneficiaries such as construction of school buildings, farm-to-market roads, flood control, solid waste management, to name a few.
