Tourism Workshop Starts in Dumaguete City
A two-day Tourism Communication and Strategy Planning workshop is being held in Dumaguete City from January 25-26. Spearheaded by the City Tourism Office, it is part of the plans for the enhancement of the local tourism industry and the development of the tourism promotions framework for this year. According to Jacqueline Veloso Antonio, city tourism officer, they have invited various stakeholders from different sectors to attend the tourism workshop – hotel and restaurant owners, dive-shop operators and other businesses in the city.
The resource speaker for the workshop will be Andrea Trinidad Echavez, a communications consultant who has worked with various organizations such as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Echavez, who is from Negros Oriental, has offered her services for free. She will be relating her experience with the province of Bohol, especially on what transpired after the earthquake and brought the province back on its feet and the tourism industry back in business.
Tourism workshop covers different approaches
Activities during the first day of the workshop include a review of the previous year’s experiences with inputs from the participants. On the second day, tourism promotions will be discussed and the formulation of a strategic communication plan. Veloso stressed the need for the stakeholders to understand the importance of mainstream and social media in tourism promotions. However, she admitted that two days are not enough to cover everything and similar activities will be lined up in future.
