Dumaguete City is not only a “City of Gentle People”, but of generous leaders as well. Mayor Felipe Antonio “Ipe” Remollo will be granting the City Scholarship Program for all the college students who are in need of assistance. Meanwhile, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will be giving the scholarship to college students in Negros Oriental who passes the requirements to avail the scholarship.
Dumaguete City Scholarship Program
The City Mayor of Dumaguete City will be granting Php 12,000 per student in the City Scholarship Program. Unlike other scholarships that must be part of the top class with excelling grades, this college student assistance program is open for all college students with passing grades. Just a passing grade in all subjects and you can avail the Php 12,000 financial assistance from the city.
With the help of the different city councilors, the program was pushed out and will take effect soon. Councilors Manuel Arbon, Lilani Ramon and Karissa Tolentino are open to making changes to the college student scholarship program in terms of tuition, expenses for uniforms, fare, field trips, internship, thesis making and another miscellaneous spending.
DOST Scholarship in Negros Oriental
The Department of Science and Technology will be giving college students a big help with their scholarship grant. Students who have graduated in Grade 12 with the track in Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) are qualified to apply for the scholarship. Non-STEM students must belong to the top five of the class to be qualified for application.
Deadline for the application forms with complete requirements will be on August 31, 2018 (Friday) while the examination is on October 21, 2018 (Sunday). Application forms and brochures are available at the Negros Oriental Provincial Science and Technology Center and can also be downloaded from the Science Education Institute website.
Benefits of DOST Scholarship
Students who will pass the examination will be granted PHP 40,000 tuition and school fee and will receive Php 10,000 worth of book allowance per academic year. They will also be given Php 7,000 monthly allowance for projects, papers and etc.
Under RA 7687, or “Science and Technology Act of 1994,” the Department of Science and Technology’s scholarship program must provide scholarships to talented and deserving students whose families’ socio-economic status do not exceed the set cut-off values of certain indicators. Last year, only 89 qualified for the scholarship out of 973 examinees.
