Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup 2021 Approved for April 9

The Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup 2021 is an upcoming regional professional basketball league in the country. It was founded back in 2020 with Mr. Rocky Chan as the chief operating officer. It is set to start this April 9, 2021, in Cebu with the approval of the Cebu City Risk Reduction Management Office. The pandemic made a huge impact in Philippine sports. After Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia opened their borders for domestic and local tourists, the hopes for starting sporting events began.

What is Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup?

The Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup is a regional professional basketball league in the Philippines that was schedule to open this 2021. The league is composed of teams from the Visayas and Mindanao region of the Philippines. This is also the first basketball league to be based in the Visayas-Mindanao region since the Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA). The MVBA then merged with the National Basketball Conference in 2008 to form Liga Pilipinas, which folded in 2011.

The new league of the VisMin Cup has 12 teams, which are backed by Puma.

There are seven teams in the Visayas division including MJAS Zenith Talisay, KCS Computer Solutions Cebu City, ARQ Builders Lapu-Lapu City, Tubigon-Bohol, Siquijor Mystics, Tabogon Voyagers and Dumaguete Warriors. Negrense ballers James Regalado and Mannie Gabas, from Dauin and Tanjay City respectively, will banner the newly formed Dumaguete Warriors. As for the Mindanao division, the teams are Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte, Pagadian City, Sindangan City and Cagayan de Oro City. Chan said that there are two more teams hoping to join the league.

The tournament is set to start with the Visayas leg, while the Mindanao leg will begin the third week of May in Dipolog City.

Chief Operating Officer (COO) Rocky Chan of the VisMin Super Cup said last March 24 that all the necessary agencies and departments in the region gave their approval to start the bubble tournament.

They’re allowing us to start on April 9, so it’s a very good development. All the teams are excited. We still need the approval from the Office of the Governor,” said Chan.

We were actually told that if we get the approval from the different agencies and departments, the Office of the Governor will also allow us, all they need is for us to get these approvals,” he added.

Chan said he had a very good discussion with the officials of the regional offices of the Department of Health, Department of Tourism, the Department of Interior and Local Government, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Bureau of Fire Protection.
