There is no shortage of rice in Negros Oriental! Hooray! The National Food Authority (NFA) in Negros Oriental said that there is currently enough stock of government rice to cater to the needs of the public, amid the rising prices of commercial rice.

Rice in Negros Oriental

In the Philippines, and most Asian countries depends on rice as the main part of the meal. With the growing population and the growing prices of rice in the country, Negros Oriental is blessed to be well stocked. With the upcoming Sandurot Festival 2018 and Buglasan Festival 2018, people will surely need all the tummy filling rice meal.

Provincial manager of NFA-Dumaguete City Hilaria Ganzon said that there are an estimated 60,000 bags of NFA rice as of latest count. Ganzon further said that they also had an inventory of 38,000 bags.

Sa NFA rice, daghan ra ta kay naa gani naabot karon, naa sa pantalan, mga 23,000 bags nga ipa unload (For NFA rice, we have plenty and in fact, a shipment of 23,000 has arrived at the city port for unloading),” she said.

so actually karon daghan ta ug stocks sa bodega (we have plenty of stocks in the cellar),” she added.

Commercial Rice V.S. Government Rice

The National Food Authority provincial manager also assured that there is no shortage of rice here except that the problem now is that commercial rice is expensive.

Ganzon assured that government rice is a better alternative at a lower cost and is of good quality. Meanwhile, the public is enjoined to avail of NFA rice being sold at a lower price than at the markets during the ongoing three-day Caravan Serbisyo Publiko spearheaded by the local government of Dumaguete City in line with the 118th Philippine Civil Service anniversary, held at the Burgos Street in this capital city.

At the NFA stall, the grains agency is selling government rice at PHP 27 per kilogram, lower than that being sold at the markets at PHP 32 per kilogram. Because the Caravan Serbisyo Publiko is a “special activity”, the NFA is making government rice affordable to the public at a lower price. The NFA, however, has set a limit of 10 kilos per person during the caravan.
