300 Million Dumaguete-Bacong Airport – waiting…
According to a Dumaguete-based businessman and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) governor for Central Visayas (Region 7) region, Edward Du, they are still waiting for a lot of things including design and feasibility study. The project initially started in 2012-2013 with the negotiating of terms with the former Philippine President Benigno Simeon Aquino III.
This new airport will require at least 250 hectares in the nearby town of Bacong. Rumors have spread that the property could be of Edward Du, which means the airport interest will go to him. Korean sponsors are also rumored to have made their agreements for the said airport. The Dumaguete-Bacong Airport will take years to construct and process until it is fully functional.
we’re waiting for the final design and the final feasibility study, we’re waiting for that from the DOTr (Department of Transportation) and the CAAP (Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines),” said Edward Du.
What I know is that the project has already been approved and we’re waiting for the final downloading of the money around P300 million to P500 million for the acquisition of the land for the airport,” he added.
So far, the Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport is the only aviation transportation terminal there is in Negros Oriental. Being the only one, many could imagine the current state of the facility.
Our existing airport is hopeless and the business sector is already affected. The problem with a short runway is that the airlines cannot maximize the full loading of cargo,” Edward Du said.
