New Dumaguete-Bacong Airport to “Process”

The different business sectors of Negros Oriental and positive on the proposed construction of the new Dumaguete-Bacong Airport that will cost multi-millions of Philippine pesos. With this new airport, many would expect the rise of more socio-economic and tourism opportunities.

300 Million Dumaguete-Bacong Airport – waiting…

According to a Dumaguete-based businessman and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) governor for Central Visayas (Region 7) region, Edward Du, they are still waiting for a lot of things including design and feasibility study. The project initially started in 2012-2013 with the negotiating of terms with the former Philippine President Benigno Simeon Aquino III.

This new airport will require at least 250 hectares in the nearby town of Bacong. Rumors have spread that the property could be of Edward Du, which means the airport interest will go to him. Korean sponsors are also rumored to have made their agreements for the said airport.  The Dumaguete-Bacong Airport will take years to construct and process until it is fully functional.

we’re waiting for the final design and the final feasibility study, we’re waiting for that from the DOTr (Department of Transportation) and the CAAP (Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines),” said Edward Du.

What I know is that the project has already been approved and we’re waiting for the final downloading of the money around P300 million to P500 million for the acquisition of the land for the airport,” he added.

Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport

So far, the Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport is the only aviation transportation terminal there is in Negros Oriental. Being the only one, many could imagine the current state of the facility.

Our existing airport is hopeless and the business sector is already affected. The problem with a short runway is that the airlines cannot maximize the full loading of cargo,” Edward Du said.

  • Hi is there any new information about the new airport in Bacong? I live in Bulak and I would be very interested in where the airport in bacong go.

      There are no updates regarding the new airport in Bacong. However, we can all make a conclusion that it will not be built in the next 5-10 years. You may contact the authorities in Bacong and they will say that it is still “processing”. Although the idea is great, we could only hope for the best that something will actually be taken in actions.
