National Heroes’ Day 2018

In honor of the heroes who fought for the Philippines against invaders and colonizers, the National Heroes’ Day is celebrated. Every last Monday of August, schools, offices and even banks are closed in order for Filipinos to meditate on the revolution that changed the history and freedom of this country.

Philippine Revolution – Cry of Pugad Lawin

In the year 1896, the Philippine Revolution led by the Katipunan and its Supreme Leader Andres Bonifacio became the start of liberty and freedom. The Cry of Pugad Lawin or Cry of Balintawak is the start of the Philippine Revolution against the Spanish Empire. A group of brave Filipinos gathered together on the August of 1896 to battle the Spaniards away from the country.

The term “cry” referred to the first clash between the Filipino and the Spaniards. These Filipinos called themselves the Katipuneros from the group Katipunan. They fought the Civil Guards or Guardia Civil till there last breath.

National Heros Day

Without these brave warriors, the Philippine Revolution could not have started and the country of what we now call the Philippines will be fully under the control of the Spanish Empire. Regardless the battles that were once fought, the Philippines has now enjoyed its freedom and liberty. To celebrate the memories of the brave heroes it is but just right that we are reminded once more of the Philippine Revolution.
