The ash eruption
An ash eruption occurred around 1:29 pm from the active Kanlaon Volcano which lasted for about 5 minutes yesterday, December 27. The Kanlaon Volcano is a two thousand, four hundred thirty-five meters (2, 435) tall volcano located in the city of Canlaon, Negros Oriental. The rumbling and roaring sounds created by the volcano was heard by the nearby barangays namely: Brgy. Cabagnaan, La Castellana, Sitio, Guintubdan, Brgy. Aral-al, Yubo and La Carlota City.
The ash rose up to 4, 500 m above the summit based on pilot reports. The government officials are doing their very best to keep the people of Canlaon calm as possible before regional-panic may occur. Traces of light ash-fall were found in some of the barangays who have also heard the rumbling of the eruption like Sitio, Guintubdan, Brgy. Aral-al, Brgy. La Granja and La Carlota city. Some part of Negros Occidental such as the municipality of Pontevedra has heard the rumbling sound and the light ash fall and of Kanlaon Volcano.
The abnormal condition of Kanlaon Volcano is being closely observed by the Philippine Institution of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOCS).
For safety reason, the Philippine Institution of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOCS) are reminding about the 4-kilometers radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and the prohibition of pilots from flying any way close to the volcano.
The Philippine Institution of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOCS) are also at the moment processing and calculating the possible results of this ash eruption and what may have caused it and what we should do if it really does erupts.
