Good Friday 2019 Procession in Dumaguete

Today April 19, 2019, is Good Friday. As part of the Holy Week 2019, Dumaguete City will be celebrating the Good Friday with the annual procession starting with a holy mass at the Dumaguete Cathedral than a long procession around the city.

What is Good Friday?

Good Friday is a Christian and Catholic holiday celebrating the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Mount Calvary. It is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover. The Holy Week starts with the Palm Sunday, then Holy Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. Then it ends with Eastern Sunday; when Jesus rose from the dead symbolizing hope, life and salvation. In the Philippines, a long procession with floats and flower decorated rides as paraded through the streets.

Good Friday 2019 Procession

The procession usually starts around 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Locals and visitors in Dumaguete City walk the procession as they pray, sing and commemorate on Jesus’ death. In the Christian and Roman Catholic believes, Jesus’ death saves all sins made by mankind. The Good Friday 2019 procession starts from the public road facing the Dumaguete Cathedral. Candles are lit, flowers are waved and songs are sung. Statues and figures of saints, Jesus Christ, and other blessed people will be paraded.
