Millions of pesos are pouring in to replace the damaged bridges in Dumaguete City. Second District of Negros Oriental Representative Congressman Manuel “Chiquiting” Sagarbarria is willing to allocate an amount of PHP 100 Million in the 2019 Budget.
When Disaster Strikes
The bridges in Dumaguete that affect most of the traffic commotion are those of that connects from Taclobo to Colon Extension and Taclobo to Barangay Bagacay. These two bridges along the Banica River are also a Flood Zone and Danger Zone when disaster strikes. Residents from the area usually evacuates every now and then when a sign of rain and flood is announced.
Both these bridges have not been fully recovered since October 2017, before the celebration of the Buglasan Festival. Although efforts have been shown for its wellness, the attentions were just not quite enough. According to the City Government, an amount of PHP 100 Million fund was already assigned for the projects of replacing the bridges in Dumaguete.
Congressman Budget for Bridges in Dumaguete
Second District of Negros Oriental Representative Congressman Manuel “Chiquiting” Sagarbarria (and former Mayor of Dumaguete City) is willing to allocate the same amount of PHP 10 Million for inclusion in the 2019 Budget.
Mayor Felipe Antonio “Ipe” Remollo is glad of the congressman’s offers. However, the mayor is hoping that the fund may be used in building more bridges in the near future. The mayor also pointed out the time constraints involved with the projects.
The Mayor also said that the engineers of Dumaguete City aren’t experienced when it comes to building bridges. The mayor also said that and the they have to seek a helping hand from the Department of Public Works and Highways in the Central Visayas.
