Dumaguete Sports Tourism on the Rise

Dumaguete, the City of Gentle People, is now becoming a sports tourism attraction for many different events such as the Governor’s Sports Festival (Governor’s Cup), UniGames, and the first ever Southeast Asian Beach Handball.

Sports Tourism in Dumaguete City

With different consecutive sports events held in the Dumaguete, the number of tourists from all over Negros and the world are summing up to a good number. Not only is it an economical gain for the city, but it is also a great sporty vacation experience at the same time.

Governor’s Cup & UniGames

The Governor’s Sports Festival or Governor’s Cup is more or less a local sports event for the people of Negros Oriental. It was participated by the different athletic youth from all over Negros Oriental. However, people from all over the world are welcomed to watch this event. With the Buglasan Festival 2017 celebration, the Governor’s Cup was a convenient event to watch for all. The sports event lasted the whole month of October 2017.

Meanwhile, the 22nd UniGames in Dumaguete City was held from October 22 to 28, 2017. During these sports event, different colleges and universities like Cebu Institute of Technology University, De La Salle-College of St. Benilde-Manila, and De La Salle University-Manila joined. The UniGames Pinoy Champs was indeed an event that allowed more colleges and university students to visit Dumaguete.

PSL Spike on Tour

As part of the city’s thrust to make Dumaguete a sports tourism hub in the Visayas region, the mayor has stressed that the city will be hosting the Philippine Super Liga Spike on Tour. PSL  stars who will visit includes Rachel Anne Daquis, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Stephanie Mercado, Angelie Araneta, Alyja Daphne Santiago, Francis Xinia Molina, Djanel Welch Cheng, Michele Gumabao, Charleen Abigail Cruz and Cherry Ann Rondina.

After the successful hosting of the UniGames, Dumaguete is now preparing for the 1st Southeast Asian Games Beach Handball for Men and Women. The city will also be hosting the Batang Pinoy Visayas Eliminations with the Philippine Sports Commission and provincial government this November 10-16, 2017 and the Children’s Games this coming January 2018.

1st Southeast Asian Beach Handball

The Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio “Ipe” Remollo has confirmed the 1st Southeast Asian Beach Handball Championship which will be held from November 03-05, 2017 at the Rizal Boulevard. During this international event, the Philippine National Teams (for both men and women) will be competing against the  teams from Thailand and Vietnam.
