About Dindo Generoso

Dindo Generoso is a 67 years old man known by many through his morning session at the radio station at dyEM 96.7 Bai Radio. Generoso is quite strong towards his political stands and even discusses it during his radio talk. Radioman Shot to Death

Broadcaster Generoso was on his way to his morning session at dyEM 96.7 Bai Radio on Thursday morning, November 7, when assailants riding a motorcycle fired at his car. The victim died on the spot due to multiple bullet wounds along Hibbard Avenue, Barangay Piapi around 7:30 in the morning. Aside from the possibility that this was a politically-motivated killing due to Generoso’s work as a radio broadcaster, De Leon said the police are looking into information that the victim may have been “embroiled in a family land dispute.”

Police and ambulance came to the crime scene as soon as possible. Police investigators recovered 7 spent .45 caliber shells at the crime scene. Later on, a team of 5 policemen had a lead on who the killers were. They hunted down and arrested the policeman believed to be the gunman in the murder.

Generoso’s death marks the second murder since 2018 of a local media personality in Dumaguete City. On April 30, 2018, broadcaster Edmund Sestoso was shot dead while he was on his way home to his boarding house. He was brought to the hospital but died from his injuries the following day.

Caught in Action!

Just this year, the CCTV was finally installed all over Dumaguete City. This helped in analyzing the gunner of the radio broadcaster’s murder. This developed as Police Colonel Julian Entoma, Negros Oriental Police Office (NCPO) chief, released on Saturday, November 9, a photo of the actual shooting, as captured in the Dumaguete City-owned CCTV camera installed in the area.

Entoma said that based on the CCTV footage, the alleged triggerman, Police Corporal Roger Rubio, was wearing a helmet of unique design. The same helmet was recovered by the policemen inside his house in Barangay Banilad, Dumaguete City, Entoma revealed. The photo released by Entoma showed a man wearing the same helmet recovered from Rubio’s home extending his firearm towards the direction of Generoso’s car. Entoma said Rubio is believed to have left Negros Oriental but still in hiding somewhere on Negros Island. Other suspects include Teddy Reyes Salaw, 44 years old who lives in Lower Batinguel and Glenn Mariño Cosame who lives in San Jose Village, Barangay Banilad.

Family, friends, supporters and even government officials are in grief as they seek justice.

“All angles will be looked into to determine the motive of this attack against Dindo Generoso,” said Central Visayas police chief Brigadier General Valeriano de Leon.
