Dumaguete Diocese donates to Marawi evacuees

The on-going war between the government security forces and the Muslim militant led by the Maute Group have caused the people living in Marawi City to seek shelter and protection in various churches. Under the declaration of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s martial rule upon Marawi and Mindanao, protests from the Muslim groups are being seen more often.

 Dumaguete Diocese to Marawi

As the war continues, churches and other evacuation centers serves as the only means of protection. Bishop Edwin Dela Peña of the Marawi Diocese have called out to his fellow brothers and sisters in the religious congregation to help the people of Marawi.

One of the active contributors of goods and finance to some parts of Marawi is the Diocese of Dumaguete headed by Bishop Julito Cortez, who by happens to be the cousin of Bishop Edwin Dela Peña. Masses and donation gatherings are being held solemnly for the needy people of Marawi every now and then.

However, as the war continues, goods like clothing and food are hard to transport. Bishop Julito Cortez requested the Dumaguete parish priests and the parishioners to appeal cash donations instead of goods for it is easier to send. Other donations are being send nationwide to Marawi as well.
