Driver’s License Card – 5 Years Validity

The Land Transportation Office of the Central Visayas (LTO-7) has recently declared the 5 years validity of the new driver’s license cards. Acting Regional Director Alita Pulga of LTO-7 said that over 343,917 licenses that were transacted from the November 02, 2016 to November 03, 2017 are now available!

License Cards – What’s New?

Made of polycarbonate material and laser engraved details, the new driver’s license cards are said to contain several security features which will be used by governing authorities. Additional information such as blood type, emergency contact person, address, and number are to be engraved on the cards as well. As ordered by the President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, the LTO have extended the validity of the licenses from three to five years.

Roll-Out Ceremony for Licenses

With the 20 newly delivered and allotted printing machines, eight LTO offices in the Central Visayas were able to release the first few hundreds of license cards in their “Roll-Out of Driver’s License with Five (5) Year Validity” held last Wednesday, January 03, 2018. First to receive the newly improved license card is Visayas Presidential Assistant Michael Lloyd Dino.

In my experience, normally it would take you several hours to get it from writing your form to the picture taking. It would take you over an hour and this time around, it only took 5 minutes for me to have my driver’s license. Then at the same time, it’s already plastic, not paper. So those who are driving without the license, please go to the respective LTO offices and have your driver’s license renewed or file an application,” Michael Dino said.

Where to get your new License Cards?

There are only eight among the 19 offices who were able to pass the required internet connection of 100Mbps or faster to operate the printing machines. The eight offices include Cebu City Licensing Center, Lapu-Lapu City Extension Office, Danao City District Office, Talisay City Extension Office, Carcar City District Office, Toledo City, Bayawan City District Office and LTO in Robinson’s Dumaguete City.
