DOST proposed new way of producing charcoal

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has proposed a new way of producing charcoal. It involves the mixture of compacted charcoal fines from agro-forest wastes and a binder such as cassava starch.

DOST trainer Rommel Romagos said that this procedure is more efficient, yet cheaper than the traditional method of doing it. He also claimed that these charcoal ignite faster and burn longer since these come denser.

One more feature of this newly introduced charcoal is that they are almost smokeless when burning which makes it environmental friendly.

Furthermore, trainings-lessons were already given to 45 barangay residents in Mabinay, Negros Oriental to disseminate this new advance for bakery, restaurant and poultry farm use, and even individual households use.

Romagos encouraged the participants to take part in charcoal briquetting production since new inventions like this not only pave way to more international markets particularly in Europe and Asia but also gives hope in conserving our environment.
