Donaire V.S. Bedak fight moved to Cebu

The WBO junior featherweight title defense of Nonito Donaire has been moved from the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Metro Manila to the Cebu City Sport Complex scheduled on the 23rd of April.

The Featherweight Title Defense

Nonito Donaire, a 33-years-old Filipino-American born in the province of Bohol, will be facing Zsolt Bedak, a 32 years-old Hungarian boxer, in the said WBO junior featherweight title defense. The Donaire (36-3, 23 KOs) and Bedak (25-1, 8 KOs) fight will be moved to Cebu due to promotion and advertising purposes.

Nevertheless, fans from all over the Philippines can now go to the Philippines’ Queen City of the South which is Cebu in a quick and easier access, since it is near the center of the Philippines.

According to the ALA Promotions president, Michael Aldeguer, the change of venue of the said fight hope to get the same atmosphere, attention and excitement as the 2007 promotion of Z Gorres’ challenge of WBO junior bantamweight Champ Fernando Montiel, which for the record drew about 25, 000 fans from all over the Philippines and the world.

This April will be the fifth fight of Donaire here in the Philippines and his first world title fight in the country since his 2009 knockout wins over Raul Martinez at the Araneta Coliseum in Metro Manila. While, Bedak for his part hasn’t lost since 2010 when he was stopped in 10 rounds by Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. for the same title he is fighting for.

Nonito Donaire got his attention and popularity after proving his capabilities and skills during his fight with Mexican Cesar Juarez last December.
