Don Bosco, K-12 ready!!!

After the K-12 curriculum was launched about 4 years ago, almost all the schools here in Dumaguete hustled their facilities in making a K-12 ready school.

What is a K-12?

According to the Department of Education or DepEd, the K-12 is a program that covers 13 years of basic education with the following main stages: Kindergarten to Grade 3, Grades 4 to 6, Grades 7 to 10 (Junior High School), Grades 11 and 12 (Senior High School).

After the K-12 program was launched, the St. Louis School Don Bosco (SLS DB) of Calindagan, Dumaguete City started on making their institution and facilities a K-12 ready school. This made some issues to both facilities and faculty members of the said school.

The Facility and Faculty of SLS DB

Before the implementation of the K-12, SLS DB only had two main buildings (one for the elementary department and one for the high school department), DB Farm, DB Dorm, and the DB field.

Since space was necessary for both the buildings and the growth of the students, SLS DB decided to take half of the DB Farm and turn it into the new DB field.  This allows the required space for the new Elementary building to successfully rise. The Senior High School building, on the other hand, will be taking the old DB Dorm for its necessary space.

By the school year 2013-2014, SLS DB was able to build the Kindergarten department and the Senior High School Building.

Almost every school year since 2013, about 5-6 teachers are needed in the said school. Most teachers have double and sometimes even triple subjects to teach. It is kind of hard teaching about 3 to 4 sections per year level. This is also one of the problems caused by the K-12 to the faculty of SLS DB.

By the school year 2016-2017, SLS DB will be able to recruit a number of educators and will be taking enrollees for all academics staring from Kinder up to Grade 12.

With the new system of the K-12, issues have indeed risen to not only SLS DB but also to some other schools in Dumaguete. The father rector of SLS DB, Fr. Daniel Elemia, said that the K-12 has indeed given the school some challenging times and with God and St. Bosco these challenges were conquered.

Indeed, St. Louis School Don Bosco is ready!
