The crime rates of Dumaguete City have incredibly decreased by 15.86 percent from last 2015 compared to 2014. According to the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (NOPPO) PSSupt Dionardo Carlos, the total number of crime summed up to 9,979 from January to December of 2015 with an index crime of 3, 179 and 6, 800 non-index crimes.
During a Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting held yesterday in the Provincial Government Building of Freedom Park, PSSupt Dionardo Carlos of the NOPPO also said that 559 incidents or crime were reduced over the past year. Another 9.54 percent of decrements was achieved over the year for the non-index crimes, which sums up to 592 decreased incidents.
According to records of the NOPPO, the greatest reduction of crimes were categorized with a 14 percent of theft (1,441 less incidents), followed by a reduction of seven percent physical injury (693 less incidents). Other categorize such as robbery with 447 less incidents, murder with 182 less incidents, car napping with 170 less incidents, homicide with 54 less incidents and 44 less incidents for the cattle rustling crime.
Traffic related crimes
During the meeting, PSSupt Dionardo Carlos also mentioned that a number of traffic-related incidents and damages were recorded with a 3, 813 or 38 percent contribution to the crime statistics of Dumaguete City. The prevalent non-index crimes and violations of special laws were recorded with a 1, 632 incidents contributing 16 percent to the total crime rate during the last year.
At the end of the meeting, PSSupt Dionardo Carlos of the NOPPO also mentioned that a number of crimes can even be more prevented if police officers and alike will cooperate in making the year a productive one.
