Close to one million students in NIR
938,237 students have enrolled in all levels in public schools in Negros Island Region (NIR) as of June 15. Based on the data provided by Director Gilbert Sadsad of the Department of Education (DepEd)-NIR, Negros Occidental has the highest number of enrollees this school year, among the 16 schools divisions in the region.
Records showed that Negros Occidental has 315,461 enrollees, Negros Oriental has 145,821, and Bacolod City has 97,235. Partial number of enrollees in kindergarten in the NIR reached 54,300; elementary – 597,206; junior high school – 252,863; and senior high school – 38,336.

In Negros Oriental, kindergarten enrollees reached 10,212; elementary – 91,040; junior high school – 41,097; and senior high school – 6,160.
Partial number of senior high school enrolled students in all public schools under the following schools divisions are: Dumaguete City – 529; Tanjay City – 779; Bais City – 885; Bayawan City – 1,756; and Guihulngan City – 986.
As of June 15, partial number of all enrollees in all schools divisions are as follows: Dumaguete City has 21,606 enrollees, while Tanjay City has 18,374; Bais City – 15,820; Bayawan City – 33,670; and Guihulngan City – 26,592.
Sadsad said he cannot yet compare the current data to last year’s figures because the enrollment has been extended until this week. During the first week of classes, Sadsad said there was no major problem brought before his office.
Meanwhile, Bacolod City Schools Division Superintendent Cynthia Demavivas said lack of desks and armchairs were among the concerns that reached her office during the first week of classes, but it was already addressed by using excess furniture of other schools.
