Dumaguete City – Sports Tourism Hub

This award will top all of the tourism awards we got. I always believe that sports is a great equalizer and unifier,” said Mayor Remollo.

Dumaguete was awarded as the Organizer of the Year (Government) in the Philippine Sports Tourism. Now on its second edition, the awardees were selected by a panel of judges from various sectors, including the Department of Tourism (DoT), the Philippine Sports Commission, the Philippine Olympic Committee and organizer Selrahco Management and Consultancy Services. Dumaguete was also a runner-up in the Sports Destination of the Year category, having hosted a variety of sporting events which brought in thousands of athletes and tourists.

During Mayor Felipe “Ipe” Antonio Remollo’s administration, Dumaguete City has hosted different sporting events such as Dumaguete Triathlon, Children’s Games (Batang Pinoy), the Dumaguete Dragon Boat Challenge, ASEAN University Games and the Beach Volleyball Republic On Tour.

Dumaguete City not only a sports tourism hub but is in the top of the RADAR (Retirement Area Deemed as Retiree-Friendly)! The Philippine Retirement Authority named the city as the top RADAR after it’s high measures on the global lifestyle standards set by the United Nations, the World Health Organization, and International Living.
