Back to School Brigada Eskwela

The Dumaguete City Division School of the Department of Education (DepEd) has launched another successful Brigada Eskwela with the theme of disaster and safety awareness and preparedness to all the 18 elementary and 7 secondary public schools here in Dumaguete. The DepEd School Governance and Operations of the Dumaguete City Division, Mr. Nelson Caday, said that the Brigada Eskwela was achieved due to the coordination of the parents, teachers and the community.

Brigada Eskwela

The DepEd Dumaguete Division did not launch their own Brigada Eskwela since they hosted the regional launching of the Negros Island Region Department of Education. With the help of the DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones and her motivating speech, the Brigada Eskwela’s success this year was met. She said that she has negotiated with the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to give a budget of one million to the schools.

The budget will no longer be used for fixing schools after disaster like earthquakes but will be used instead for preparation purposes, she added. This will be followed nationwide for all public schools. Meanwhile, here in Dumaguete, the City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo gave a big helping hand for his part during the Brigada Eskwela especially in the construction of school buildings and other necessities for preparedness.

Under the DepEd Memorandum No. 43, Series of 2017 released last March 9, 2017, the Brigada Eskwela will be ready just in time for the opening of this school year 2017-2018 during the ‘Back-to-School’ on June 5.
