The evacuees have confirmed that they have been contacting continuously with their relative, Amin Mapande who lives in Poblacion 8, before reaching the destination. The people of Marawi scattered after the first firing and bombing of their town. They were forced to travel from Guimba of Marawi to Dipolog City, Iligan, Dapitan and Osamiz by barge to finally board a boat going to Dumaguete with no belongings.
Three families first arrived on Tuesday (May 30), then two families came the following day (Wednesday, May 31) to join with their relatives. Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo assigned police officers to scan though the evacuees background and their whereabouts for profiling purposes. This is also to ensure the safety of civilians in Dumaguete City.
“I don’t want monkey business in Dumaguete; ‘no’ to drugs and ‘no’ to terrorism”, said Mayor Remollo.
For the time being the families are being evacuated in their relative’s house in Poblacion 8 and in the Mosque (Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah Masjid) located in Bagacay. Doing all they can, the Diocese of Dumaguete donates to Marawi evacuees not only here in Dumagutee but to Marawi as well.
