5 Million pesos for Halfway Houses
The Local Government Units or LGU are preparing five million pesos (PHP 5, 000, 000) worth for the construction of halfway houses. According to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), the halfway houses will be built to help communist rebel returnees like the New People’s Army in provinces such as: Kalinga, Mountain Province, Northern Samar, Negros Oriental, Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato, and North Cotabato.
Requirements for Halfway Houses
The funds for the said halfway houses will be given access to the LGUs if they pass the qualifications set by the Comprehensive Local Integration Program based on systems, procedures and guidelines made by the department.
These halfway houses will serve as a safe house for rebel returnees to slowly help and regain adjustment to life in general society. A person’s life is sacred and must be given a second chance. The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) officer in charge, Catalino Cuy, is hoping that the provinces (and highly-urbanized cities) comply with the requirements set by the Comprehensive Local Integration Program in order to access the funds and start constructions immediately.
The main goals of DILG to our country is to give local autonomy, peace and order, and public safety. To meet the DILG’s goals in action, the halfway house is one step in bringing a safer place for society. But it is with the cooperation of the public and other local departments which takes the other step in fulfilling the needs for a peace loving and safe place here in our country.
