The SPES is held yearly in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and local government units (LGUs) of Dumaguete City. This is to help the students aid in their educational needs for the next school year. PESO-Dumaguete chief Ma. Socorro Pastor Mira on Monday said her office will start screening applicants on a first-come, first-served basis starting March 16, 2020. However, these batch will be split into two considering that the Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) will end their school year in June.
The students will each receive a minimum wage of Php 460 day, which was the same rate as that of last year. The minimum wage increased by 31.4% compared to the previous years when the SPES beneficiaries only received Php 350 a day.
