23rd Anniversary of CHED-NIR

The 23rd Founding Anniversary of the Commission on Higher Education-Negros Island Region (CHED-NIR) will be celebrated with the initiation of their Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) advocacy project called the “HiEd@#ASEAN2017”.

With the 50th anniversary of ASEAN themed as “CHED@23: Harmony in Diversity Connecting with the ASEAN Community”, in line events are being held to promote the goal of ASEAN on improving the higher education institutions (HEIs) here in Negros. The ASEAN advocacy project of CHED-NIR will urge many learning facilities all over Negros Island Region composing of 24 university and colleges from Negros Oriental and 55 from Negros Occidental, a total of 79 HEIs.

 “The HEIs both public and private will be involved in this activity considering that we have the students to participate the activities in the classrooms which will be more of ASEAN flavor,” said Dr. Dennis Rebueno, OIC-Chief Education Program Specialist of CHED.

“And later on, for globalization this will prepare the students for other activities outside of the ASEAN continent,” Dr. Rebueno added.

In addition to this, Republic Act No. 7722 (R.A. 7722) also known as the “Higher Education Act of 1994” which states that the State shall protect, foster and promote the right of all citizens to affordable quality education at all levels and shall take appropriate steps to ensure that education shall be accessible to all.

With the coordination of the ASEAN and CHED, ASEAN countries will be now accepting teacher and student exchange to the betterment of culture sharing and academic enhancement.
