Anti-Distracted Driving Act implemented

The City Councilor Jose Victor Imbo gave a copy of the decree to Sr. Insp. Robelito Mariano which states the arrest and payment of fines for motorists who text while driving. The Dumaguete Provincial Highway Protocol Group will be implementing this ordinance along with driving with no license and registration policy and the use illegal mufflers.

“Long before the Anti-Distracted Driving Act was passed, an ordinance banning the use of hand-held mobile communication devices while driving was approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod on October 5, 2011 but was not implemented” City Councilor Jose Victor Imbo said.

Now that the regulation along with the others are implemented, actions will be taken immediately. The implementation of this ordinance would set the goal of minimizing road casualties and accidents which are caused by lack of focus while driving.

Anti-Distracted Driving Act punishment fees

According to the police and traffic heads, a motorist who will be caught texting or using any communication devices will be fined Php 300 for first offense, Php 400 on the second offense and Php 500 for the third and following offenses.

The decree stated that the following are prohibited while driving a motorized vehicle: iPhones, cellular phones, wireless telephones, two-way radio transceivers, walkie-talkie, pagers and beepers or any kind of communication devices. Only law enforcements are allowed to use communication devices on duty and if the operation is an emergency.
